English Hudson and the Women’s Prison Association: Navigating Change, Building Resilience

When the Women’s Prison Association (WPA) faced significant leadership turnover in both its executive and development teams, English Hudson was brought in to stabilize fundraising and safeguard donor relationships. Through multiple transitions—including serving as interim CDO—we provided continuity, clarity, and a steady hand during a turbulent period.

As WPA rebuilt its leadership, our role evolved from urgent stabilization to strategic partnership. We co-led fundraising strategy, embedded best practices, and helped reposition WPA’s legacy of 180 years for today’s philanthropic landscape. Our work has included:

  • Designing revenue strategies and stabilizing fundraising operations.

  • Strengthening messaging and storytelling to unify WPA’s voice.

  • Repairing donor trust and deepening relationships.

  • Building staff capacity and systems for long-term growth.

Our shared values and lived experience in criminal justice reform deepen this partnership, allowing us to move beyond transactional consulting toward authentic collaboration. Together, WPA and English Hudson are advancing a vision of resilience, clarity, and justice-driven impact.

WPA CEO Meg Egan explains:

One of my first priorities as CEO was to evaluate every external partnership. Not only did I choose to continue with English Hudson, but I expanded our engagement because they brought strategic and writing expertise we didn’t have in-house. They’re not just consultants—they’re true thought partners.

Does your organization have similar needs? English Hudson can help you grow your fundraising and resilience—just as we did with WPA.

Let’s talk about how we can move your mission forward.
